We are two sisters who love many things, among which are the Lord Jesus Christ and each other. We also like shopping, clothes, and entrepreneurial things, which led to the purchase of Simply Modest in the summer of 2009. We did not start this web business, but believe that the Lord led us to it, and we are very pleased to be carrying on something that was started by two godly ladies six years ago.

We believe God meant it when He commanded His women to dress modestly in 1 Timothy 2:9-10. The Bible does not have hundreds of complicated rules and regulations, but teaches that God is more interested in the hearts of people than in their rule-keeping, since we can't keep all the rules anyway. (Romans 3:10) The two basic guidelines God gives for women are that they should:

1) Dress modestly (1Timothy 2:9-10, 1 Peter 3:3-5)
2) Dress like women (Deuteronomy 22:5)

We know that everyone has their own ideas and convictions of what "modesty" and "like a woman" means. If we hoped to meet everyone's personal standards, running this web business would be rather hopeless. We've chosen to stick with the following dictionary definitions of modesty:  

1. Having or showing a moderate estimation of one's own talents, abilities, and value.
2. Having or proceeding from a disinclination to call attention to oneself; retiring or diffident.
3. Observing conventional proprieties in speech, behavior, or dress.
4. Free from showiness or ostentation; unpretentious.

As you can see, these definitions leave lots of room for personal taste and conviction, which we believe is how God intended things to be. You'll notice that God never tells women to be ugly or unattractive. We believe the Lord loves beauty and grace, and wants His women to be shining lights of both to a dark world - first on the inside, but also on the outside.

We know firsthand how hard it can be to find suitable clothing in a world that is driven by fleshly lusts and promotes self above all. And that's why Simply Modest is here. We want to make it easy for you to dress in a beautifully modest way. We want relieve you of the stress we hear in so many voices "I can't find anything in the stores!" We want such a relief to be affordable to anyone. We want you to obey the Holy Spirit in all things - including the way you dress.
